Dr. Andrew Penner, Psy.D. grew up in British Columbia, Canada. He earned his Master’s degree in Psychology from Alliant international University, California School of Professional Psychology in 2008. He then proceeded to earn his doctorate degree in Clinical Psychology from Alliant international University and graduated in 2018.
He has over 8 years of clinical experience providing holistic psychotherapy to individuals, group, and couples at a variety of locations including: New Vistas Crisis Center, Areta Crowell’s BSPR Center, The San Diego LGBTQ Center’s Departments of Behavioral Health, The San Diego Center for the Blind, Total Context Therapy Group. He is now completing his Post-Doctoral training at the Green Room Psychological Services under the supervision of Dr. Neda Khodaparast, PsyD, QME.
Dr. Penner specializes in working with rape survivors and individuals with childhood history of sexual and physical abuse. He is also a trained LGBTQ therapist, possessing years of clinical experience working with this community, and was trained for several years working with vision loss and other disabilities. He utilizes a number of therapeutic orientations such as humanistic, existentialist, expressive arts based, and cognitive behavioral therapy to help individuals to access their core values and beliefs, and realize their true self in order to maximize their potential to achieve their therapeutic goals.
Dr. Penner works collaboratively with his clients to tailor a unique treatment plan for each person’s goals and needs. His view of therapy encompasses the view that individuals can overcome their struggles by understanding themselves in a safe and non-judgmental space, where they feel emotionally safe to explore all parts of themselves.
